The Delon Wright Showcase
Kyle Lowry had the night off on Sunday night (rest) against the Pistons, which gave an opportunity for the rookie Delon Wright to showcase his point guard skills in the NBA. Cory Joseph was also in foul trouble in the first half which opened up more minutes for the young point guard. The rookie put up career highs in minutes played (31min), points (13pts 3/8 FG), free throws ( 5/6 FT) and rebounds (3). The most minutes that Wright had seen in a single regular season game this season was 7 minutes.
Although, it was a blowout loss to the Pistons, the rookie had a good run at the backup point guard slot. It gave Coach Casey a chance to evaluate the 23 year-old guard out of Utah and how he fit in with the second unit. He showed some flashes including a drive and kick out to Terrence Ross for three, and an alley oop to fellow rookie Norm Powell.
Wright said he felt comfortable on the floor in his post game interview. Hopefully, this will give Coach Casey the confidence to give Wright more minutes off the bench in the future.
