POUND THE ROCK STARS - On a nightly basis, no matter how good or bad the Raps play, no matter if they blow out a team or if they get blown out and no matter if they win or lose, these are the Raptors with the best 'Pound the Rock' status for the night.
FINAL SCORE: PACERS 90, RAPTORS 88 SEASON RECORD: 0W-1L
LINE: 21 pts (6-11), 2-3 3pt, 7-7 FT, 8 ast, 7 reb, 5 stl
What more can you ask for from your newly acquired starting point guard on opening night? Lowry did not let up once during the game and pushed the pace from beginning to end. Aside from his 21 pts, he was able to force Indiana shot clock violations, stole inbound passes turning them into points and was fantastic on help defense. Even with the loss, no need for concern here.
POUND THE ROCK STAR #17: JONAS VALANCIUNAS
LINE: 12 pts (6-15), 10 reb
Rumor prior to tip off was that Jonas was understandably nervous about his NBA debut in front of nearly 20k fans. He seemed fine as he fought for offensive rebounds and was aggressive on both ends earning him 4 fouls. Still, a good sign as long as he keeps it under control. Jonas played within his abilities and moved well without the ball but was overlooked a few times when open under the basket. His energy stayed high, he remained confident and never hung his head. That’s exactly what we want to see.
POUND THE ROCK STAR #7: ANDREA BARGNANI
LINE: 16 pts (4-15), 7-8 FT, 5 blk
Clearly not Andrea’s best shooting performance, but what stands out is his 8 free throw attempts due to the fact that he was attacking the rim all night. Fans should not be turned off by the 16 points as the Raptors shared the ball resulting in 4 of the 5 starters scoring in double digits.
SHOUTOUTS TO THE PACERS:
DAVID WEST
LINE: 25 pts (12-19)
West scored 14 of his 25 points in the fouth quarter leading his team from behind which led to the winning layup from George Hill with seconds left in the game.Next up for the Raps: @ BROOKLYN
