The Guy Who Killed Canada's Olympic Chances - Raptors sign Gary Forbes

As rumoured, the Toronto Raptors officially signed 6'7" swingman, Gary Forbes today as the Denver Nuggets chose not to match the Raptors offer sheet.  The Panama native, played 63 games for the Nuggets last season and averaged 5.2 ppg.  He also played in this summer's FIBA Americas tournament for the Panama national team.

Forbes is no stranger to Canadian basketball fans as he dropped 39 points against Canada in this year's FIBA Americas tournament this summer.  Panama's 91-89 win over Canada eliminated Canada from qualifying for next year's Olympic qualifiers.  At Raptors training camp today, Forbes met with the media and was jokingly proud of his performance that forced Canada Basketball head coach, Leo Rautins, to step down.

Forbes, a UMass alumni, has had a bit of an international playing career before his time with the Nuggets last season with playing stints in the Philippines, Italy, Venezuela and Israel.  He went undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft.  He'll join the mix of swing players in Toronto with DeRozan, Kleiza, Butler, Johnson, Barbosa and Bayless.
